Joy Reid became the first African American woman to anchor a primetime network show on cable television only three weeks ago. She hosts ReidOut on MSNBC weekdays at 7:00 pm. Growing up, she became engrossed in watching news shows which helped her develop her love for journalism. She looked up to Melissa Harris-Perry, a political commentator, television host, writer, and professor who focused on African American politics.

Joy Reid was fortunate enough to have a role model that looked like her growing up. Today, Joy Reid serves as a role model to other African Americans girls and women that love journalism. Reid recognizes her mother’s influence over her political views, “she took us with her to get her citizenship. She took us to vote. I still remember the first vote I ever took...I am a super voter and I never miss an election. Voting is an extension of activism."

Reid is a revolutionary Black woman because she prides herself in covering issues of neglect and chaos. For example, the Black Lives Matter Movement and COVID-19’s impact on the African American community. She is able to examine the mistakes in politics to provide a voice to the voiceless.

Joy Reid believes in diversity throughout her show. Not only racial diversity but also diversity in ethnic and sexual orientation. She features a diverse audience on ReidOut because she believes in expertise diversity. People from many different cultures experience some of the same issues. Tune in to the ReidOut on weekdays at 7:00 pm EST on MSNBC.
